LATAM EDGE AWARDS 2018 WINNER IS!!!

We revolutionize technology by strengthening a link with nature to reduce environmental pollution

Every day we expose ourselves to gases like CO, CO2, NOx and COV’S, and the polluting particles PM 10 and PM 2.5 that can be harmful to health. According to the WHO, around 7 million people around the world die each year due to air pollution.
In BiomiTech, we assume the challenge of improving air quality. Therefore, we take advantage of the great potential of microalgae to transform the contamination into Oxygen. In addition, the process of capture of gases that these microorganisms carry out generates Organic Biofertilizer, which we currently allocate to green areas in urban infrastructure. In this way, we give the example of a circular economy

Mexican company Biomitech is the winner of the 2018 Latam Edge Awards

The company will receive £120,000 worth of services to support their business expansion to the United Kingdom.

London, 19th of June 2018: Biomitech, a Mexican company offering bio solutions to reducing atmospheric pollution, was this year’s winner of the LatAm Edge Awards, the only prize celebrating   Latin American scale-ups looking to expand their business to the United Kingdom and Europe.

The winning company created an comprehensive scheme, with biomimetic technology, to develop their project looking to manage air quality in both urban and industrial settings. The project applies the biological air purifying system “Biourban” as an alternative to reduce a variety of atmospheric pollutants. The recycling of CO, CO2, NOx, COVS and PM 2,5-10 retention of particle renewal material from photosynthetic microorganisms (micro algae) is presented as an technological alternative based on the circular economy with a high potential for positive impact, creating environmental, economic and social benefits.

“We are very excited about this win, which signifies a win for cleaner, healthier cities, looking for new solutions so that no more people are lost due to air pollution” says Carlos Monroy, the company’s CEO.

In their 2018 edition, the LatAm Edge Awards are offering a prize of £120,000 worth of services, so that the winning company is able to establish themselves as a company with a stable foundation in London, with a support network to assist them in developing their business in the United Kingdom.

The prize includes two hot desks at the eOffice, a co-working space in London, as well as a variety of services designed to support Biomitech in their expansion to the United Kingdom. These include: services of accountancy and new business development provided by Deloitte, legal support from the Joelson law firm, marketing and PR provided by GrupoCASAUK, digital campaigns by Eydos Digital, coaching services by Sapovalova Coaching and market research provided by Aconcagua Partners.

Numbers behind LatAm Edge Awards 2018

166 companies from 29 countries signed up, coming from 15 different specialty areas.
Smartcities 14%, Technologies 13%, Creative11%, Fintech 10%, Management 10%, Retail 8%, Health 7% , Education 6% , Agritech 5%, Media e Energy 4% and Cleantech, Big Data, Government e Gaming at 2% .

83% of companies came from Latin America, 7% from North America and the Caribbean, 5% from Europe, 4% from Asia and 1% from Africa.

The countries with the highest numbers of scale-ups to sign up were: Brazil (30%); Mexico (19%); Colombia (10%) and Argentina (10%) which confirms what we already know: these are the countries with the fastest growing tech ecosystems in Latin America. This year, only 4% of companies registered came from Chile.

The participating scale-ups hailed from 72 different cities, with São Paulo (10%) standing at the highest number of registered companies, followed by Buenos Aires, 8%, Mexico City, 7% and Bogota, at 5%.

Out of the 5 2018 LatAm Edge Awards finalists, 3 hailed from Brazil: V2COM, from Brazil; DDH, from Brazil, T4S Technology for Safety SA, from Brazil; BiomiTech, from Mexico; @Trimaker, from Argentina.

“Although Biomitech was the winner, we experienced a different phenomenon this year. All finalists were highly voted for, with the differences between votes standing at only a fraction of points. Not one of the start-ups was directly competing with each other. In the coming year, we can expect to award companies according to their area of expertise”, comments Sandra Sinicco,  the creator behind the award and a partner of Latamtech UK, a London-based company composed of 4 business partners focusing on supporting scale-ups looking to expand to the United Kingdom.

At the end of the event, Sandra Sinicco announced that registrations for the upcoming Brazil Tech Awards, taking place in November this year, are now open. The event will take place at the São Paulo Tech Week, and will focus on European scale-ups looking to expand to Brazil. The award-winning company will have all the support required for a soft landing in São Paulo, which will be their base-city in their process of expansion to Latin America.
