On May 18, the United States Trade Representative (USTR) formally notified the US Congress its intent to initiate negotiations for modernising NAFTA in accordance with the "Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015" commonly referred to as the "Trade Promotion Authority" (TPA). Previously, the USTR launched a consultation process held from May 23 to June 14, 2017. During this process, the USTR received over 12,000 comments and is holding public hearings from June 27 to June 29, 2017. The USTR will notify the US Congress and publish a detailed summary of its negotiation objectives at least 30 days prior to initiating formal negotiations. Canada initiated on June 3, 2017 its public consultation process, which will be available for all stakeholders from June 3 to July 18, 2017. Participation throughout the consultation process from companies, organisms, organisations and individuals with an interest in trade relations between Mexico and North America is essential to contribute with proposals, ideas and alternatives to be considered by the Governments in the negotiation process. We encourage all those with an interest in the outcome of the modernisation process of NAFTA to participate in this consultations.
